In 1992, LMS – Live Music in Schools or "Levende Musik i Skolen" was founded by a man with a passion: Ebbe Høyrup, who believed that all children should have access to professional music concerts of high quality.
In the first season, the office counted one person aside from Ebbe, eight music groups were booked, and 104 professional concerts for children took place on schools around Denmark.
Today, Ebbe is still the leading man behind the wheel, but not much else is the same. LMS has grown to be the national Danish development agency and creative lab in the field of professional music for and with children. The office in Aarhus seats ten people, and each year around 100 music groups play almost 2500 concerts for school children all over Denmark.
Throughout the years, an LMS trademark has been the collaboration with other organizations and people across the industry. Since the late 1990s, Ebbe Høyrup has been involved in the international work of JMI - Jeunnesses Musicales International, and in 2010 he was elected chairman of the Young Audiences Music Committee under JMI.
The work with international partners has been very enriching for LMS' development as an organisation, and in 2014 LMS was the leading force behind the Blackboard Music Project joining ten partners from around Europe - from Macedonia and Croatia in the south to Norway and Finland in the north.
Since 1996 LMS has celebrated music for young audiences at the Musik i Tide Festival. Musik i Tide Festival is Europe's largest forum for young audiences music concerts, and Musik i Tide Festival 2017 from September 24th to 26th is going to be something out of the ordinary, as it sets the frame for the LMS 25th anniversary celebration.
