Skyggespill: Cross-country Co-creation

New international YAM production Skyggespill co-produced between Kulturtanken, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and Oorkaan
30 Nov, 2017

A boy falls asleep, and while he's asleep, his room comes to life. Shadows crawl out from under the bed, trees stretch their branches across the walls. But among all the scary magic, the boys sees someone dressed in red pass by. He enters a wonderful world of sound where monsters try to keep him away from their most precious secret. Will the boy overcome his fear and master the shadows?

Skyggespill (Shadowmusic) is a new international young audiences music production, produced and performed in a cooperation between the Dutch young audiences production company Oorkaan, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and Kulturtanken

The starting point for Skyggespill is the famous piece Verklärte Nacht by Arnold Schönberg. The music is made accessible to young ears in a musical fairy tale where music and theater merge: the music tells the story in a visual and poetic play with scenography, costumes, lights and movements.

Skyggespill premiered in October in Oslo and was presented at this year's Marked for Musikk in Larvik, Norway.

Two versions of Skyggespill will be made: a smaller version with a sextet from the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and a full version with the entire chamber orchestra.

Skyggespill is made possible by the Dutch Performing Arts Fund in the framework of the Fast Forward Project and by Dextra Musica.
