Young Audiences Music Awards (YAMawards) promote and honour creativity and innovation in the field of music for young audiences. The 8th edition of the YAMawards is now open and officially accepting applications. This year we aim to continue connecting young people and children with music and culture in ways that inspire, enlighten and delight.
Participation is open to all music-based live productions for audiences up to 18 years of age. Whether soloist, group, ensemble or orchestra, the main criteria are: quality of music, quality of performance, relevance/necessity of the program, audience communication and international touring potential. Due to the awards’ growth and artistic exigency, the YAMawards will be open to 3 distinct categories, each with their own winner:
- Best Small Ensemble for young audiences
- Best Large Ensemble for young audiences
- Best Opera for young audiences*
On top of these accolades, cash prizes will be presented to the Production of the Year and the winners of the Public Choice Award (selected from the top 4 nominees in each category).
Previous winners include Rikskonsertene/Kulturtanken (Norway), Oorkaan (The Netherlands), Smalands Musik&Teater (Sweden), Body Rhythm Factory (Denmark), Zonzo Compagnie (Belgium), Jazz for Juniors (South Africa) and Muziektheater Transparant (Belgium).
*The YAM Best Opera for Young Audiences Award is powered by RESEO, The European Network for Opera and Dance Education.
