The Young Audiences Music Awards (YAMawards) honours creativity and innovation in the field of musical productions for young audiences from all corners of the world.
The 13th edition of the YAMawards is officially open and accepting applications, with a new exciting category specially dedicated to School Concerts!
Participation is open to all live music productions for audiences up to 18 years of age. Entries from soloists, groups, ensembles or orchestras will be judged based on the quality of music, the quality of performance, the relevance/necessity of the program, audience communication and impact.
This year’s YAMawards has the following distinct categories and an honorary mention, each with its own winners:
- Best Small Ensemble - for Young Audiences Award
- Best Large Ensemble - for Young Audiences Award (Groups of 8+ / Orchestras / Etc)
- Best Opera - for Young Audiences Award
- Best School Concert - for Young Audiences Award
- Best Participatory Project - with Young Audiences Award (Projects where the participation of young audiences / the process are the main focus)
- Public Choice Award (selected from the top 4 nominees in each category, by public vote)
- Best Digital Production - for Young Audiences Award (honorary mention)
Previous winners include Orthemis Orchestra (Spain), Zonzo Compagnie (Belgium), Shadow Music (Norway), La Balle Rouge (France), Rikskonsertene/Kulturtanken (Norway), Oorkaan (The Netherlands), Smalands Musik&Teater (Sweden), Body Rhythm Factory (Denmark), Zonzo Compagnie (Belgium), Jazz for Juniors (South Africa) and Muziektheater Transparant (Belgium).
Application Process & Jury
Applications close on the 20th of June, 2022. The YAMawards are governed by international juries composed of young audiences professionals from JM International (JMI) and RESEO (the European Network for Opera & Dance Education). The 2022 YAMA nominees will be announced by mid-September 2022 when they will be placed online and open to public voting. Public Choice Award & Voting
The 2022 YAMawards nominees will be announced on the 15th of September, 2022, when they will be placed online (on the YAMawards website) and open to public voting. Voting will end on the 18th of October 2022 at 19:00 CET. To vote, users must create a profile on the YAMawards and each user will receive one possible vote per production. Prizes
YAMawards winners will receive cash prizes in the following categories:
- Best Small Ensemble for Young Audiences: €1000
- Best Large Ensemble for Young Audiences: €1000
- Best Opera for Young Audiences: €1000 (Powered by RESEO)

- Best Participation Project with Young Audiences: €1000
- Public Choice Award: €1000
A representative from each nominee will be invited to the YAMawards Ceremony in Brugge, Belgium. YAMawards Ceremony & YAMsession
The winners will be announced at the YAMawards Ceremony that will take place on the 18th of October, 2022, during the YAMsession. This international music conference will be held in Brugge, Belgium, from the 17th to the 20th of October, and includes international showcases from several countries, a producers’ forum and a host of provocative talks, encounters and debates between creative professionals working in the field of young audiences music development.
